What is a Good Franchise Business Plan Format?

The business plan format for a franchise is different from that of a standard business plan. A franchise business plan outline should include:

Plan your business and impress investors with Business Plan Software
  • Specific franchise background (history, management of franchise, etc.)
  • Up front investment needed (franchise fees, startup marketing programs, etc.)
  • Risk analysis (what has the success rate been for franchisees?)
  • Competitive strength (vs other franchise chains)
  • Cash flow and ROI projections (considering franchise cost elements)

The Mission Statement section of the business plan should talk about the business strategy of the franchise, as well as how your particular franchise operation will dovetail with the national franchise.   It should show how you can be profitable supporting the franchise's mission.

Don't forget that even though you will be an independent business, you are paying a lot of money for the business format of the franchise.  The franchise will also expect you to follow their "operating system".  Most lenders know this is a mandatory synergy, so you must discuss it in your executive summary and business strategy sections.

A solid franchise business plan is normally a pre-requisite to to getting the business startup loan you need to launch your new franchise startup business.
